Machinery Regulation: Small controller PNOZmulti 2 now compliant

arrow_backTo the overview

30 June 2026 | Pilz Skandinavien

With the configurable safe small controller PNOZmulti 2 from Pilz, users can now implement the requirements of the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 (MR). The EU type-examination certificate issued in accordance with Article 25 confirms that these requirements have been met, as verified by TÜV SÜD as an independent notified body. Certification enables users to implement their plant and machine design in a way that's future-proof, because the MR requirements are mandatory from 20.01.2027.

The MR requires safety risks to be identified and reduced systematically, e.g. through risk assessments and safety concepts. This is particularly crucial for safety components such as small controllers, as they contribute directly to accident prevention. These safety components are explicitly defined in the MR and are particularly relevant because they are safety-related in their own right, must be assessed independently from the overall machine and require their own CE mark. Users benefit from certification: they can prove beyond doubt that PNOZmulti 2 meets the MR's requirements for safety components. This reduces the coordination work for machine manufacturers and those placing the product on the market, and increases planning certainty. In addition, the machine will receive its CE mark more quickly.

MR-compliant protection for people and machinery

The EU type-examination certificate confirms that the PNOZmulti 2 complies with the MR's essential health and safety requirements. The examination was based on the standards specified on the certificate. So from a regulatory perspective, PNOZmulti 2 is ideally placed for both new and existing plant and machinery that is being placed on the market or undergoing a control technology upgrade in compliance with the MR, whether now or in the future.

The configurable safe small controller PNOZmulti 2 from Pilz performs central safety-related functions such as monitoring E-STOP pushbuttons or safety gate switches and safely switching off safety valves or contactors. Critical machine states are detected early as a result, reducing hazards for plant operators. As such it makes a significant contribution to accident prevention and plant safety in accordance with the MR.

About the small controller PNOZmulti 2

For a comprehensive safety concept, the small controller PNOZmulti 2 can be combined with other safe automation technology from Pilz, for example with safe sensor technology PSEN the control and signal devices PIT. Thus machine manufacturers benefit from a coordinated solution comprising controller, sensor technology and operation, as a one-stop, holistically safe machine concept. This minimises work on the interfaces and simplifies project configuration.
